Wizkid, the outstanding Nigerian singer and composer, has added another feather to his crown in his remarkable music career.
On Monday, August 29th, 2022, his fourth studio album, “Made in Lagos,” was certified Gold in the United States.
The album received Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America after selling over 500,000 copies in the United States.
Wizkid becomes the first and only African artist to sell over 500,000 album copies in the United States and have his or her album certified ‘Gold’ as a result of this achievement.
The album’s biggest hit was the ‘Essence’ remix, which included American pop singer Justin Bieber and Afrobeats musician Tems.
The song received the “Best Collaboration Award” at the 2020 BET Awards, making Wizkid (together with Tems) the first African singer to win a major BET award category.
The song was a huge success in the United States, peaking at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Made In Lagos included successful songs and collaborations from Tems, Burna Boy, Damian Marley, Skepta, Ella Mai, H.E.R, and Buju, as well as Tems and Canadian vocalist Justin Bieber, among others.
