I Am Athlete, a prominent talk show, has just unveiled their latest series entitled “I Am Hip-Hop”, which commemorates Hip-Hop’s 50th anniversary. To inaugurate this series, the hosts, Brandon Marshall and Chef Danie, sat down with one of the greatest music producers of all time, Timbaland.
During their conversation, Timbaland was asked to list his top 10 rappers, which he responded to with a sense of reluctance.
He stated, “I’m going from the era of like just…Jay-Z is number one for me…So, Biggie, Jay and Nas are like The Three Musketeers…and Tupac. I would say, if we had to route the Mount Rushmore, I would have to put five because I had to put Jay-Z, Biggie, Tupac, Nas, damn… we gotta put six. Snoop Dogg, lets not forget Eminem.”
Moreover, Timbaland reacted to the people who disrespect Eminem, saying, “You better not. You better not. He [Eminem] took hip-hop and made a story out of it. It’s all about how people use the term ‘hip-hop’ and how they interpret it.
So, the people that I’m mentioning in my list have changed my life and have led me to where I am today. They’ve made me love music even more.”
Overall, it was an intriguing and insightful conversation that delved into the roots of Hip-Hop and how it has transformed into a global phenomenon over the past 50 years.
