According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, R. Kelly has filed an appeal in his federal $ex crimes case in New York, challenging the 9 federal counts of RICO charges, $ex crimes, and human trafficking for which he was found guilty in 2021.
R. Kelly’s legal team is asserting that the government failed to meet its burden of proof in court, despite a unanimous jury verdict.
His attorneys argue that at least four jurors admitted to prejudging his guilt before announcing their verdict, and two of them had viewed the “Surviving R. Kelly” docuseries and should never have been selected for the jury.
With regard to the allegations of underage relationships, Kelly’s team contends that some of the individuals involved were at least 18 years old when they met and had $exual relationships with him.
They also allege that a lot of information was allowed to be considered during the trial that should not have been seen or heard by the jury, which hurt his ability to get a fair trial in the case.
According to them, details about his $ex life and conduct with former partners or exes, including discussions about STDs and s3xual preferences, were not relevant to the crimes he was being accused of. Rather, they believe these details were presented by prosecutors in an attempt to sway the jury.

Moreover, Kelly’s team is pushing back against former employees and associates who testified against him.
They claim that many of them falsely testified to things they had no knowledge of and were not privy to in their capacity as staffers. They believe that this testimony unfairly influenced the jury and further undermined Kelly’s ability to receive a fair trial.
It is worth noting that last month, R. Kelly’s team filed an appeal in his child pornography and enticement convictions, only weeks after a federal judge in Chicago sentenced him to one additional year in prison on top of his previous 30-year sentence.
