Kanye West To Contest In 2024 Presidential Election
Despite several scandals surrounding his recent behavior, American rapper Kanye West has announced his intention to run for President of the United States in 2024.
Kanye west made his interntions of standing for president known via a scoial media post, a video post that saw him share a video of his campaign logo as he captioned it Ye 24.
The Grammy Award-winning rapper, songwriter, record producer, and fashion designer who is born with his legal name Kanye Omari West some months ago with the help of his attorneys completed all legal processes to switch his name to Ye which he is now known for.
Back in 2020, the 45-year-old rapper ran for president, but his campaign was unsuccessful because he only received 70,000 votes. He also claims to have asked former US President Donald Trump, who is also running for re-election, to be his running mate.
Kanye West has been through a lot in the last few months, beginning with his anti-Semitic comments online and in a television interview, which sparked a lot of controversies and caused people all over the world to condemn him.
It all came down to financial difficulties as deals he made with big brands began to pull out, cutting ties with him, which he later announced cost him nearly $2 billion.
When West announced his presidential campaign in 2020, he was too late to appear on the ballot in at least six states.
He only held one rally, during which he broke down in tears while discussing abortion, and he funded two television commercials. He was only listed as a candidate in 12 states in the end.
The rapper claimed to have hired alt-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos as his campaign manager for his 2024 bid.
Mr Yiannopoulos, a former editor at the right-wing publication Breitbart, was largely shunned by mainstream conservatives after a video surfaced in 2017 in which he appeared to condone paedophilia. He described the remarks as “gallows humour” and expressed “disgust” at the sexual abuse of minors.
Most recently, Mr Yiannopolous worked as an intern for Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene.
