The trial of actor Jonathan Majors, aged 33, for domestic violence has been delayed until at least September 6, following a request from New York City prosecutors for more preparation time.
Majors appeared in court as the trial was supposed to begin, facing charges related to an incident in March where he allegedly committed acts of violence against a woman.
The accusations include twisting her arm behind her back, hitting her on the head, and pushing her into a vehicle. The woman sought medical treatment for minor injuries to her neck and head, including a cut to her ear.
The charges against Majors are misdemeanors, primarily assault, and if found guilty, he could be sentenced to up to one year in jail.
To accommodate the prosecution’s request for additional evidence gathering, the judge has set a new tentative trial date of September 6.
Following the hearing, Majors left the courtroom and acknowledged some individuals in the gallery. He gestured to a woman seated near the door, touching his hand to his heart during the interaction.
His attorney, Priya Chaudhry, expressed in an email that Majors believes he was unjustly arrested and views himself as the true victim in this situation.
She emphasized that his life, career, and reputation have suffered significant consequences due to these allegations, but he remains resolute in his determination to clear his name.
She said Majors was “the real victim in this shameful ordeal,” adding that he “has had his life, career, and reputation torn apart. Yet he remains unwavering in his determination to be absolved from this harrowing ordeal.”
Jonathan Majors is renowned for his roles in movies such as “Creed III” and “Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania,” among others. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office spokesperson, Doug Cohen, expressed their commitment to presenting all the facts and evidence during the trial.
The postponement of the trial allows both the prosecution and the defense ample time to prepare their cases, ensuring a fair legal process as the trial progresses.
