Veteran actor Eric Braeden, best known for his portrayal of Victor Newman on CBS’ popular soap opera “Young & the Restless,” recently revealed that he has been diagnosed with cancer.
Despite the diagnosis, he stated that he has continued working on the show that he has starred in since 1980.
Braeden took to Facebook to share the news with his fans, explaining that the diagnosis followed complications with his bladder and urination, which worsened during his recovery from a recent knee-replacement surgery.
He added that he decided to be open about his diagnosis in the hope that it would encourage other men to be vigilant about their health.
Braeden revealed that he was diagnosed by a urologist at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, where he had surgery to relieve pressure on his urethra using a UroLift.
During the surgery, doctors also removed the cancer. Subsequent biopsy results showed some high-grade cancer cells, and he is now undergoing immunotherapy.
Though the exact timeline is unknown, Braeden said in the video that he had just completed his second of six immunotherapy treatments the previous week.
He emphasized the importance of listening to his body and not overexerting himself, and he has modified his workouts accordingly.
Braeden, who has played Victor Newman for over 43 seasons and nearly 4,000 episodes, expressed gratitude for his work and his fans’ support in the emotional video, stating that acting is his passion and he loves knowing that he entertains people.
He also affirmed his determination to beat cancer, saying “This bastard ain’t going to get me, I’m going to get it.”
