Coolio, the Grammy-winning rapper, producer, actor, and TV personality, passed away on September 28, 2022, at the age of 59. His manager, Jarel (Jarez) Posey, confirmed that the cause of death was due to fentanyl.
His family also revealed that he had traces of heroin and methamphetamines in his system.
Initially, the cause of Coolio’s death was unknown, and he was found at a friend’s house. However, it was later believed that he suffered a heart attack. Sheila Finegan, his manager at Trinity Artists International, expressed her condolences in a statement to Variety, saying, “We are saddened by the loss of our dear friend and client, Coolio, who passed away this afternoon.
He touched the world with the gift of his talent and will be missed profoundly.”
Coolio’s music career was marked by his 1995 hit “Gangsta’s Paradise,” which he recorded for the film “Dangerous Minds” starring Michelle Pfeiffer. The song quickly became one of the most popular rap songs of all time, topping the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks and ending 1995 as the No. 1 single of that year in the United States. Coolio won the Grammy Award for best rap solo performance for the song.
Aside from his music career, Coolio was also an accomplished actor, appearing in popular TV series like “The Nanny,” “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” and reality shows such as “Celebrity Big Brother.” Additionally, he was passionate about cooking and released his own cookbook, “Cookin’ With Coolio,” in 2009.
He also competed on the Food Network series “Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off,” where he came in second place.
TMZ was the first to report the news of Coolio’s cause of death, leaving a void in the music and entertainment industry, but his talent and impact will continue to inspire generations to come.
